Advent Calendar

dear readers,

During the month of December, twenty-two Harlequin Historical Authors have teamed up to create an online Advent Calendar.  You will be able to see the calendar on the eHarlequin website as well as on the individual author sites.  Each day, click on the calendar to visit the host author's website, and you can win prizes such as signed books, gift certificates, and holiday themed goodies.

You will be asked to complete a task, such as posting a blog comment, searching for a hidden ornament, or answering a question about an excerpt.  Please check the author's web page for your instructions and to see what the daily prize is.  You can enter once each day, at each of the twenty-two websites.  The more author sites you visit, the better your chances of winning.

On December 23rd, a random drawing from among all the twenty-two authors' entries will determine the grand prize winner of a Kindle 3G.

Please see the official eligibilty rules for this giveaway.

My day was December 2nd.  My prize, a copy of my latest book, "A Countess by Christmas" was won by Beverley from Solihull.  I am not accepting any more entries for my part of the competition.  Please click on the relevant date to find out what today's author will be giving away.

Stage one of the New Voices competition is complete, and the 10 short-listed authors anounced:

The Top Ten Announcement!!!

by Bethan Hilliard on Monday 27 September, 2010, 9:05 AM

Wow! After an absolutely incredible 824 entries, Romance HQ was faced with the exhilarating (and only slightly daunting!) task of pulling out the ten entries that would make our final shortlist.

We weren’t looking for a perfect story - after all the competition is called New Voices - but we were hoping to find fresh voices and raw potential. It was truly exciting for us to discover that there were so many talented writers out there - ones that we are incredibly keen to work with.

Having closeted ourselves away for many, many hours, the editorial team here at Romance HQ have emerged buzzing, partially with caffeine, but mainly with electrifying enthusiasm to proudly present the long-awaited Mills & Boon New Voices Shortlist…

So, in no particular order, here they are! (Drum roll please…)

Blood Roses by Lindsay J Pryor

The Boss’ Naughty Assistant by Cady Phelan

Help Wanted: Apply for Love by Carrie Spencer

The Royal Marriage Rescue by Kara Jacobe

A Russian Affair by Lucy Snowe

The Secret Duchess by Sharon Siddoway

Secrets & Speed Dating by Leah Ashton

The Surgeon and the Cowgirl by Heidi Hormel

Thigh Noon by Kat Cantrell

Wildsong by Jill Lynn Anderson

We can assure you all that it was no easy task to pick out ten from the large amount of promising entries that we judged. Just like everyone else who has read and commented on the entries on this site, we found that we all had strong opinions on who should go through leading to a fair amount of lively debate as well!

But most of all, we had a huge amount of fun judging – one of the most wonderful and inspiring parts of an editor’s job is finding new talent and if the standard of entries in the competition is anything to go by it’s out there in bucket loads!

Congratulations to those short-listed from all at Romance HQ! And we’ll be telling you through out the week what it was about each of these entries that really caught our eye!

My first competition, run to mark the release of the anthology, "Mills and Boon presents..." is now closed.

The winner is...
Eva, from New Zealand.

Eva will receive personally signed copies of these previous releases:

‘His Cinderella Bride’ by Annie Burrows

‘For the Sheikh’s Pleasure’ by Annie West and

Any book of her choice from Margaret McDonagh's back list.

Eva correctly answered these three questions, finding the answers by visiting the websites of each author contributing to the anthology:

1) Q. In ‘The Earl’s Untouched Bride’, by Annie Burrows, what was Heloise’s brilliant idea?
A . She suggested the Earl should marry her instead of Felice

2) Q. In ‘An Italian Affair’, by Margaret McDonagh, which (fictional) natural landscape feature/formation were Gina and her grandmother searching for when they went to Elba?
    A.  The rock formation Lancia del Nettuno

3) Q. In ‘The Billionaire’s Bought Mistress’, by Annie West, what does Rafe want Antonia to do and what reason does he give?
    A. As he will be working in Europe for the next 6 months, mainly in London, and will be without female companionship, he wants her to take on the role of his mistress.

Congratulations Eva - I hope you enjoy reading your prize books!
